Buying a headphone was one of the things I was excited about when I got my first one. Having used earphones for a long time and getting tired of the frequent cable damage, I had to make a change.
The headphone was a very cheap one, the P47 wireless headphones, which is one of the most common and cheapest headphones today. I had no money but wanted to get the experience.
On getting the headphone, I became a celeb in my neighborhood, all eyes on me. Let's drop the fantasizing.
I used the headphone for slightly over a year. By then, the Bluetooth function was no more since the battery had been damaged, one handle was broken and patched up with insulating tape and the speakers had been repaired several times.
I had no idea how to take care of the headphones. I literally learned my lesson the hard way.
From my experience, these tips can be helpful if you want to take good care of your headphones and use them for a long time.
1. If wireless, do not overcharge.
If one thing is sure, then it is the fact that it is almost impossible to replace the headphone battery. This applies to wireless headphones. There is of course wired option where you use a male-to-male cable to connect it to your device but if you love the wireless feature, take care of the battery.
Do not leave your headphones charging overnight or when away. Ensure you set up a timer and unplug the charger immediately after your headphone gets fully charged.
2. Do not overly stretch, drop or expand your headphone.
Most headphone bodies are made of plastic which can easily break. If you stretch or drop them carelessly, it is very likely that you'll have a broken headphone sooner or later. When such happens, you cannot blame it on the vendor who sold the headphone to you.
It does not matter whether your headphones are expensive or cheap, they all easily break. The difference in the material used is usually very slim. It is only the sound and other connection qualities that differ.
3. Do not share your headphones with kids.
I know, this sounds a little selfish but we all know that your son or daughter will not handle your headphones with as much care as you do. In order to prevent possible damage by kids, keep it away from their reach or buy them their own headphones. This could turn out important if you live in a big family.

4. Replace the earmuffs when worn out.
One of the first things to get old on a headphone is the earmuffs. If you bought your headphones from a brand that produces the headphone accessories, replace them with earmuffs we they grow.
This makes it possible to continue enjoying your music or video sessions without feeling much pain or discomfort.
5. Cleaning your headphones.
We can't escape dust no matter how hard we try. The dust can block your headphone speakers and jack ports. This can easily make it dysfunctional. The best thing you can do is keep it away from the dusty environment when not in use, preferably inside a headphone bag. The other very important thing is cleaning your headphones frequently.
These tips should help you take good care of your headphones and get the most out of them before finally deciding to either upgrade or replace them.
