If you frequently hold video conferencing sessions using Zoom Meeting, it is important to understand how to make your experience and those of the attendees better.
One of the most common problems experienced by Zoom users is lagging or slow performance.
There are a few things that may contribute to your session becoming slow:
1. Poor network
Zoom Meetings require a stable network for the processing of audio and video.
If you share screens, a stronger connection is required. Try to test your network speed or strength before hoping on a call for a better experience. You can use tools like fast.com to measure your internet speed.
2. Low storage on your PC.
Low storage space slows down your PC and can affect the performance of other applications or processes run in your computer. Clear out unused files and applications to leave some free space on your disk.
If you need more storage, buy external drives or expand your PC SSD. You can also use a HDD for backup if your device has an extra slot for the same.
3. Low Processor capacity.
Some computers comes with processors that have a clock speed of as low as 1.0ghz with 2 or less cores. An application like Zoom requires a strong processing capacity. Use turbo boost to improve the cpu performance(applicable for Intel CPUs) or ask for the computer processing power during purchase.
4. Low RAM capacity
Applications like Zoom require a PC with a minimum of 8GB RAM.
Upgrade your PCs RAM to have a better experience using Zoom.
In cases where an upgrade is impossible, you have to acquire a new device with the right specs.
5. Background Processes.
Before hoping on your Zoom call, check out and closed the processes running on your PC. Close the applications that might slow down the PC by consuming your computer memory.
On Windows PCs, go to the search bar and type 'Task Manager' to view and close all the applications you are not using. You can also use the keyboard shortcut 'Ctrl + Alt + Delete'
Having the best of Zoom meetings combines a number of requirements including good Internet connection, enough storage space, a good processor, few and less memory consuming background processes, and enough RAM.
