HOW TO CREATE A BOOTABLE FLASH DISK
Any operating system can crash anytime regardless of the
device you use. This could be a result of a bad sector within your laptop or
desktop memory, a power failure, or computer virus.
With such uncontrollable and unpredictable situations, it is
important to have an Operating System readily available for installation.
Before preparing or even thinking about an operating system,
it is important to back up your files. You can either use an external drive or
cloud storage. The available options include google storage and iCloud.
Why is a bootable flash disk preferred over a compact disk?
Most systems have been sold in compact disks or digital video disks for the past couple of decades. This was a convenient way to share the software with customers. These disks have certain disadvantages which include easily wearing out/breaking among others.
Flash disks
have a bigger storage capacity and can be used to store both the OS software
and other files while CDs and DVDs have a maximum of around 4.7gb of storage
space.
What are the requirements to create a bootable flash disk?
Before creating a bootable flash disk, ensure you have the
following items:
1. A flash disk of not less than 8GB of memory
2. Rufus software(any version)
3. Enough power on your PC or ensure it is plugged in
4. An ISO image file(for the boot device)
How to create a bootable flash disk
Once you have the requirements, follow these steps:
1. Install the downloaded software(rufus) and launch it
2. Select the disk to use(ensure it is the correct USB disk, everything on it will be erased)
3. Select the image from your PC folders(usually in the downloads folder)
4. Change the partition system to MBR
5. Type your preferred output file name and click on run.
This process will create a bootable device disk that can be used to install an operating system.
Different computer models have different keyboard shortcuts for the boot options window. Search on google to get the right keyboard shortcut.
