If you’re wondering how to make this transition smoothly, you’re in the right place. This step-by-step guide will walk you through everything you need to know about upgrading to Windows 11 Pro.

With only under a year(Oct 2025) until Microsoft ends support for Widnows 10, Upgrading to WIndows 11 Pro is the best decision you can make.

Windows 11 Pro has redefined the way users interact with their devices. Featuring a revamped start menu, advanced security options, and features like Snap Layouts, it’s a significant improvement over Windows 10. Beyond aesthetics, Windows 11 Pro is built for professionals and gamers, offering better resource management and multitasking capabilities.

Before diving into the process, let’s ensure your laptop is ready for the upgrade:

Check Compatibility

Not all laptops can run Windows 11 Pro. Microsoft has outlined specific hardware requirements for the new OS. To ensure compatibility:

  1. Use the PC Health Check Tool:
    Download and run the PC Health Check tool from Microsoft’s official website. This tool will verify if your device meets the minimum requirements.

  2. Review Minimum Hardware Requirements:

    • Processor: 1 GHz or faster, 2 or more cores, 64-bit architecture.
    • RAM: 4 GB or more.
    • Storage: 64 GB or larger.
    • TPM: Trusted Platform Module version 2.0.
    • Graphics: DirectX 12 compatible.

Backup Your Data

Upgrading to a new OS always carries some risks. Protect your important files by creating a full backup. You can:

  • Use built-in tools like File History or OneDrive.
  • Save your files on an external hard drive or cloud service.

Update Your Current OS

Before upgrading, ensure your Windows 10 is fully updated. Updated systems often encounter fewer upgrade issues. To update:

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

Disable Third-Party Software

  -Purchase the license and receive a product key.
  -Enter the key in Settings > System > Activation to start the upgrade.

Upgrade using Installattion Media


If you have a Windows ISO file(Which is downloadable), you cn create an installation media and use it to upgrade windows. Heres what you need to do:

1. Create a bootable drive using either Ventoy which allows multiple Operating systems within a single drive or rufus, a simple and easy-to-use tool. You will an flash disk with a capacity of at least 8GB.
2. Restart your laptop and boot from the USB drive. This is dones by pressing on a shortcut usually F12 on Dell/Lenovo laptops and F10/escape on HP laptops.
